The funeral service for poet Maksym Kryvtsov, who died defending Ukraine from Russian aggression, has been held in Kyiv.
According to Censor.NET, the memorial service was held at St Michael's Cathedral. On the way to Maidan Nezalezhnosti, Kryvtsov's poems were read from microphones.
About a thousand people came to pay tribute to the deceased: relatives, friends, brothers and sisters, as well as those who did not know him personally. The poet will be buried in his hometown of Rivne.
One of his books was recognised by PEN Ukraine as one of the best Ukrainian books of 2023.
He went to war voluntarily in 2014 as a fighter with the Right Sector, then fought in the Da Vinci Wolves battalion. Later, he worked at the Centre for Rehabilitation and Readaptation of ATO and JFO Participants, as well as at the Veterans' Hub. After the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022, he returned to the battlefield. He continued to write poetry and prose, and worked on a novel, but did not finish it.
